The FDA has launched an investigation into whether a family of drugs, including medications for rheumatoid arthritis, might be causing cancer in children and young adults.

The drugs, known as TNF blockers, are immune suppressors that interfere with the functioning of an inflammation causing chemical known as TNF. The TNF blockers under investigation include Remicade (generic name infliximab), Humira (generic name adalimumab) and Enbrel (generic name etanercept). (more…)

Fruits and vegetables are a good source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that neutralize free radicals molecules that can damage body cells and contribute to disease.

With an emphasis on eating healthier, people are trying to find ways to consume the recommended five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Kombucha Tea

In Japan, Kombucha refers to a seaweed soup, not to the tea. The Japanese call the fermented tea beverage k?cha-kinoko, literally, black tea mushroom. Another story claims the tea was named after a Korean physician named Kombu who is said to have cured a Japanese emperor with this tea. Kombucha Tea or KT for short is known by many other names also, such as mushroom tea, Manchurian mushroom and fungus tea. (more…)

Many of you reading this may have heard about some of the benefits of plants from the ocean and, in particular, brown seaweed. You may have seen some of the recent news stories about the specific constituents of brown seaweed helping get rid of excess body fat, or you may have read about them helping to eliminate radiation poisoning from the body, or perhaps even about some of the anti cancer effects of various seaweeds. “Resveratrol seems to have a therapeutic gain by making tumor cells more sensitive to radiation and making normal tissue less sensitive,” said lead researcher Paul Okunieff, chief of radiation oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In a study published in the journal Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, Okunieff and colleagues treated a group of pancreatic cancer cells with 50 mg of resveratrol, then iodized them to simulate the action of chemotherapy. Lung Cancer

Lung cancer occurs when abnormal cells begin to reproduce and attack the tissues of the lungs. That’s the plain and simple explanation. Here’s a short expansion in its normal life, a cell will grow, divide, proliferate and then die, all the while meeting the needs of your body.

When one or more of these cells begin to reproduce on their own, without serving their original purpose within the body, they form a tumor or a cancer. This is a mutation that researchers don’t fully understand. Left unchecked, the cells will continue to reproduce and spread throughout the lung’s tissue and then into the other vital organs of the body.

  • Basal Cell Skin Cancer

    Basal Cell (often misspelled as Basil) is arguably the most common form of skin cancer in the world. Basal Cell Cancer starts in the lowest layer of the Epidermis (skin), which is called the Basal cell layer. Around eighty percent of diagnosed skin cancers are Basal Cell Carcinomas.

  • Pituitary Cancer

    Pituitary tumors are abnormal growths found in the pituitary gland which makes hormones that affect growth and the functions of other glands in the body.

    The pituitary gland is a pea-sized, reddish gray organ in the center of the brain, just above and behind the nose.

  • Cervical Cancer

    Cervical cancer is the second most common malignancy in women worldwide, and it remains a leading cause of cancer related death for women in developing countries. Cervical tumors usually affects women of middle age or older, but it may be diagnosed in any reproductive aged woman.

    Cervical tumors are classified as either preinvasive where the lower third of the epithelium contains abnormal cells, or invasive in which the full thickness of the epithelium contains abnormally proliferating cells.

  • Bone Cancer

    Bone cancer is rare and accounts for less than 1% of all new tumors. Not all bone tumors are fatal in fact benign (non cancerous) abnormalities are more common than malignant ones. Most bone cancers are secondary and have been spread from another site.

    Primary bone cancer which starts in the bone is quite rare constituting less than one per cent of all malignant tumors.
